  1. After much research, I declined to buy this item because of the price-fixing that Bose engages in. If you bring this item up on Amazon, delete your cache, and do it again, you’ll find that Amazon rotates between sellers. All at the same price, which is the same price as Target or Best Buy or anywhere else. Obviously Bose has taken advantage of the Supreme Court decision a few years ago that allowed manufacturers to specify a retail price. It may be legal, but outlawing competition is certainly un-American, and I’m not going to purchase anything from Bose. Besides, the Altec Lansing T612 is far superior, has received much better reviews, and is one-third the price.

We purchased this product in May and within 3 days it died — dead, kaput. We exchanged it for another — in less than a week it died. As if I had no sense, I exchanged it for yet a third one. After all, it’s a Bose — I paid extra for the quality, so this must be a fluke, I thought to myself.

Well, guess what? Our third one just went kaput in the middle of a big Labor Day weekend party!!! These things are J-U-N-K.

I have had my Bose Sounddock for about 3 years now and have enjoyed the sound quality. HOWEVER I have had it break/have problems TWICE now. The first time (a year or so after I bought the system), the little pins in the back of the plug that goes into the machine bent and broke off for no apparent reason. It cost me $80 to fix. I was also sorely disappointed to realize that it is incompatible with some new iPods, or at least the connection is not good enough that the music will play consistently without sounding like it’s skipping. Then, the topper on the sundae, I was listening to my old (5th gen) iPod and all of a sudden it just stopped working. Something broke in the connector and it just stopped working. I also HATE that this system ONLY works with iPods- you cannot get any adapters to use it with your computer or anything. The lack of free maintenance for the first few years, the lack of compatibility, and apparent lack of durability do not make this system worth the money. I will be buying a pair of Sony speakers from best buy this time instead of getting this repaired…
